According to the BBC, the Chief of Police in North Kivu Province has reportedly spoken to the police, urging residents to use traditional tools such as machetes to fight those who want to attack the city of Goma.

DR Congo spokesperson Patrick Muyaya said on Twitter that hate speech and calls for people to take up arms were highly suspicious and should be cut.

The M23 issued a statement condemning the hate speech of the police officer, stating that he was a police commissioner of the Adjoins Division, who made the remarks on Wednesday, May 25th.
