Greater cooperation essential to boost Aviation in Africa

Aviation Africa 2022, which is an exhibition that started on was 12th until the 13th of September 2022, at Kigali Convention Center, where different Airlines have converged to review the way forward in regard to boosting and streamlining the Aviation industry on the continent.

Among the Airlines present include Rwanda Air, SABENA V, and other aviation industries, from the continent and on the global scene. Aviation plays a vital role in transportation and development, however, the industry has had to endure a serious paralysis because of the Covid-19 pandemic, and it was in this context that the Africa Aviation Secretary General ADEFUNKE ADEYENI called for stronger cooperation to improve how the continent might handle the future pandemics, as a way of cushioning the impacts attributed to pandemics, as evidenced by the Aviation industry due to Covid-19.

The East African Community Civil Aviation Safety and Security oversight Agency EAC-CASSOA, is based on the establishment of the East African Community Civil Aviation Safety and Security Oversight Agency on 18th April 2017, The mandate of CASSOA is based on article 92 on the EAC Treaty, under which the partner States undertake to make air transport services safe, efficient and profitable, adopt common policies to the development of Civil air transport in the Region, harmonize civil aviation laws and regulations, and coordinate measures and cooperate in the maintenance of high security.

The specific functions of the Agency are to develop policies on the development of safe, reliable, efficient, and economically viable civil aviation, with a view to developing appropriate infrastructure, aeronautical skills, and technology, as well as the role of civil aviation in support of other economic activities.

Assisting partner States to meet their safety and security Oversight obligations and responsibilities under the treaty and the Chicago convention and its annexes. To provide the partner States with an appropriate forum and structure to discuss, plan, and implement common measures required for achieving the safe and safety development of international civil aviation oversight through the implementation of international standards and recommended practices relating to the safety and security of civil aviation.

6th Aviation Africa Summit & Exhibition - Kigali 2022

Organised under the auspices of the Ministry of Infrastructure, Aviation Africa Summit and Exhibition will be co-located with the first ever SMIESA (Salon Mondial des Infrastructures Equipments et Services Aéroportuaires) Event 2022, bringing together Government officials, Aviation Leaders, Regulators, Policy Makers, Manufacturers and Exhibitors from all over the world, hosted in Kigali, Rwanda.

SMIESA aim at stimulating technology transfer in Africa by promoting the establishment of manufacturers (equipment and service providers), and promoting African airports and related services under the theme: "supporting airport industry restart, addressing their needs and scale-up".

During these events, Stakeholders in the aviation sector will share their experiences and lessons from the past, discussing issues for how the industry can accelerate recovery, promote sustainability and enhance the customer experience.
