H.E. Ambassador Benoit Ryelandt and his delegation participated in the celebration of the 30th anniversary of the National Institute of the Museums of Rwanda, at the Ethnographic Museum, in Huye district. On 27th September
In his speech, the Ambassador emphasized the close ties that bind Belgium and Rwanda in this field: “During their official visit to Rwanda in 1970, the Belgian sovereigns, King Baudouin and Queen Fabiola visited the National Institute of Scientific Research here.
Impressed by the wealth of the collections and the quality of the academic research,
our sovereigns made a commitment
to the Rwandan authorities to create a national museum to house them.
Today, the close cooperation between the Ministry of Sports & Culture, the Institute of National Museums of Rwanda and our Royal Museum for Central Africa are gaining an additional momentum thanks to several new initiatives. One of them is the ongoing joint project to digitalize Rwandan historical archives which are kept in Belgium. These archives will be returned to Rwanda in digitalized form.”Amb. Benoit Ryelandt.
