314 cases of Novel corona virus reported on 21 January, 309 cases were from China

Common signs of infection include respiratory symptoms, fever, cough, shortness of breath and breathing difficulties. In more severe cases, infection can cause pneumonia, severe acute respiratory syndrome, kidney failure and even death. On 10 January, WHO published a range of interim guidance for all countries on how they can prepare for this virus, including how to monitor for sick people, test samples, treat patients, control infection in health centres, maintain the right supplies, and communicate with the public about this new virus.

Coronaviruses (CoV) are a large family of viruses that cause illness ranging from the common cold to more severe diseases such as Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS-CoV) and Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS-CoV). A novel

coronavirus (nCoV) is a new strain that has not been previously identified in humans.

Therefore, The government urged Citizens toward prevention of Novel corona virus. The Minister of health,Dr. Diane Gashumba Said:” Rwandans are called to be vigilant on Novel corona virus by avoiding travels to affected areas & practicing basic hygiene like hand washing with clean water and soap. As the most effective channel of communication, we request you media partners to spread the news about prevention of Novel coronavirus which recently broke out in some Asian countries and confirmed in the USA a few days ago. Just the way you collaborated in preventing Ebola in Rwanda.

309 cases were reported from China, two from Thailand, one from Japan and one from the Republic of Korea; • Cases in Thailand, Japan and the Republic of Korea were exported from Wuhan City, China; • Of the 309 confirmed cases in China, 270 cases were confirmed from Wuhan; • Of the 270 cases, 51 cases are severely ill1 and 12 are in critical condition2 ; • Six deaths have been reported from Wuhan; • Four of five deaths, with available epidemiological information, had underlying comorbidities; • To date, sixteen health care workers have been infected.
