Gender based violence against women with disabilities is something that happens on a daily basis

This is a crime and also a human rights violation. Most women with disabilities especially those who are under care givers either as family, in institutions, or even as intimate partners are made to believe that it is a normal thing just because of the benefits they get from the perpetrators.

GBV happens to Women with disabilities repeatedly and it cuts across; race, religion, economic status, educational level, types of disability and so forth. At some point, we may see that the forms of violence differ depending on; culture or socioeconomic standing, but there are aspects of GBV that are universal.

GBV is founded on the lack of equality and the act of exercising power by the abuser. In general, it is between men and women and the frequency of the act is seen mostly at the family or homestead level.

The societal tolerance for GBV and the privacy with which it is treated is what makes it invisible or difficult to detect. #ResistGBVOnWWDs #WeAreOvercoming!
