How Uwimabera helps teen mothers to get back their lost confidence

Uwimabera Anastasie lends a hand to teen mothers who faced many problems including how they are treated by their families together with the stress of taking care of their babies.
Uwimabera started a nonprofit organization called Women and Children in Need Action-ISARO(WOCINA -ISARO) located in Muhanga district, Southern Province in order to help hopeless teen moms.

Uwimabera

Before, she worked at GTZ (A German Non -Governmental Organization). After completing her studies in developmental sciences, she decided to quit the job she had before and run a training home. In that new job is where she met marginalized young girls saying that they became pregnant at early age consequently, they are thrown out of their homes and chased from schools, and then she started on WOCINA- ISARO.

Uwimabera said: “After listening and observing the challenges those young girls face, I decided to help them but I had no means. I asked one of my friends and we formed a group of eight. Every one brought what she/he could have and we started a nonprofit organization called Women and Children in Need Action-ISARO(WOCINA -ISARO).

Uwimabera said that their actions are divided into two parts. The first part is based on counseling and the second one is to train them on how they can overcome poverty.

From the start in 2012, they have helped over 160 girls and women. Many of them are teen mothers. 30 of them turned out to be professionals in making traditional Rwandan basketS, 33 became professionals in hair dressing, and others are professional kitchen chiefs. Above all, all of them have defeated psychological troubles that made them hopeless for their bright future as other young girls of the same age do.

Now Uwimabera is glad of WOCINA’s achievements and saying that when she notices that the miserable ones are becoming hopeful, this may be one of the biggest achievements she appreciates in her life even if they still have a long to go.
