In the past few days, particularly on 2-3 May, heavy rainfall hit the northern, western and southern provinces of Rwanda, causing floods, triggering landslides and leading to casualties and damage.

Over 125 people have died after floods and landslides hit Rwanda's Southern, northern and western provinces, authorities say. The rains hit at night when many people were asleep.

Rwanda's president offered his condolences to those who have been affected. His statement also added that residents were being evacuated from "affected and high-risk areas".

The government's main priority now is to "reach every house that has been damaged to ensure we can rescue any person who may be trapped", the Reuters news agency quotes Mr Habitegeko as saying.

PM Dr. Ngirente is in Rubavu District, for the burial of victims of floods & landslides in parts of Western, Northern and Southern provinces. He comforted the bereaved and displaced families, assuring them of Government support.

"Including helping to bury victims of the disaster and providing supplies to those whose homes were destroyed,.." Said, Hon. Marie Solange Kayisire, Minister in charge of Emergency Management at Government of Rwanda.

People have died across the affected provinces, In Rwanda. Several injured people and some others still missing. In addition, some houses collapsed, and two main roads are impassable due to flooding and landslides.

Rescue interventions conducted by the national authorities are ongoing across the worst-hit locations. For the next 24 hours, moderate rain is expected over most parts of the country.
